I have been a sewist for 35+ years. I am both a BurdaStyle and Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor.
My love of all things sewing started as a child when I took sewing lessons at the Singer Sewing Store in Queens, New York. That was the start of the spark.
I have sewed from my own clothes, my daughters christening gowns, their little girl dresses to super functional pieces for the busy working woman.
What I have seen is the sewing world has changed tremendously over the years where technology plays a big role in how we pick patterns, select fabric and create fashion.
Patterns were traditionally commercial paper tissue patterns where now the options are endless: pdfs you can print at home or large pdfs that you can request from a commercial printer. I found the more options the better.
Fabric selections are endless and the exciting options online now are breathtaking. Back in the day you needed to physically go to a fabric store – usually around where you lived. Now with on-line options the world is your fabric store!
Creating fashion has changed also. The tried and true basics will always remain but new tools and techniques has supported the home sewist to new heights. There are also so many sewing learning options from national sewing expos to sewing experts providing national or local seminars. I have attended many and highly recommend those venues.
I hope I inspire you to challenge your creativity.
